This session focuses on the resource requirements that underpin competent and reliable inspection activities, as outlined in Clause 6 of ISO/IEC 17020:2026. We will explore the requirements related to personnel, facilities and equipment, as well as externally provided products and services, and how these collectively support the effectiveness of an inspection body.
Particular attention will be given to the evolving expectations around personnel competence, highlighting the shift from purely qualification-based approaches to a stronger focus on demonstrated competence, experience, and decision-making capability. We will also discuss how inspection bodies can ensure that their facilities and equipment are fit for purpose, properly maintained, and capable of supporting consistent inspection outcomes.
In addition, the session will address the control of externally provided products and services, emphasizing the importance of supplier management in maintaining quality and reliability. Key differences from the 2012 version of the standard will be highlighted, along with practical steps that inspection bodies can take to strengthen their resource management systems and align with the updated requirements.
